There is various types of measurement that can be done by theodolite. Traversing also can be done by using theodolite and this is known as theodolite traversing.
Let us see the formal definition of that.
"The traversing in which the traverse legs are measured by direct chaining on ground and the traverse angle at every traverse station is measured with a theodolite, is known as theodolite traversing."
There is some methods that is used for traversing.
This methods are very useful and by using this technique, one can accurately take reading of angles in theodolite.

The magnetic bearing method is also known as fast needle method because it requires to know magnetic bearing of the every station that is taken at the traverse and it is usually done in short time.
In magnetic bearing method, the magnetic meridian is established only the starting point of station.
By using fast angle method, one can find lent of traverse leg and magnetic bearing but the angle between line cannot be measured.

Deflection Angle Method
We use this Method in case of Open Traverse, because in Open Traverse, connected lines are not in loop but usually in some direction. Because of it, We use Angle one line extended to direction of line, makes with other connected line, which also known as Deflection Angle.
Really very useful about surveying and traversing. This seem at fist to very difficult but after reading this it is easy and I understand this. Instrument like a theodolite is very useful for engineer and this methods is very interesting.
